Read on for how to get involved
SPiCE are running an exciting new art competition inspired by the natural and cultural history of our local area.
Sandringham and the surrounding areas of Eden Park and Cabbage Tree Swamp have a rich and diverse heritage. Once known by the Māori name Ngā Ana Wai (meaning Watery Caves), the area was a wetland with an underground cave system, lava rock forests and an abundance of trees, plants and wildlife.
We want you to use this as your inspiration and design a poster to remind us how Sandringham once looked. You might want to focus on some of the native trees - Pōhutukawa, Kawakawa, Tī kōuka (Cabbage Tree) or some of the native birds - Kererū, Ruru, Pīwakakawa or maybe the volcanic activity which resulted in our local maunga - Owairaka/Mt. Albert or Maungawhau/Mt. Eden.
If you need some inspiration, you can find more information about our natural and cultural heritage here.
We would like to thank Albert Eden Local Board for their support and funding of this project.
