Over the last few months, you may have seen us talking about the 'Flood Recovery Planning Project' in our newsletters, on Facebook, and at some of our events.

Maybe you've been affected by flooding in Sandringham or Balmoral, whether during the 2023 Auckland Anniversary Weekend Floods, or before/after that time. Maybe your neighbours were, or you've read/heard a lot about flooding on the news. And hearing the words 'Flood Recovery Planning Project' may have got you thinking: 'What IS this?'

You've come to the right place! See below for a quick snapshot of the project!

Flood Recovery Planning Project

Together to Thrive!

Following major storms and flooding in our area, SPiCE is working with the Tāmaki Makaurau Recovery Office to facilitate community-led recovery planning in the Sandringham and Balmoral communities. Alongside other local groups, we are supporting our communities to connect, work together, and consider how we can all support our community to thrive.

So, now you know what the project is - how can you get involved?
  • Check out our Community Connections Calendar for upcoming events
  • Join/start a neighbourhood/street support group (we can help with this!)
  • Volunteer at one of our local events or pop-up Kōrero Mai stands
  • Share our information with neighbours and community members who might not have access
  • Other ideas? Let us know how you want to participate!
  • Contact us to share your thoughts, questions and ideas!

We’d love to know:
  • What do you love about your community?
  • Where in the community do you feel safe, seen, and supported?
  • What do we need more of?
  • Is there anything currently missing from our community?
  • What does a thriving community look/feel like?
  • What would support you, your whānau and your community to thrive?
If you're looking to know more about this project and how we're hoping it'll make Sandringham an even better place for all of us to live, check out the project page on our website. We'll also keep our calendar regularly updated with upcoming Flood Recovery Planning engagement events, which you can find on our home page. We've also inserted a nifty little flyer of upcoming Community Connection events for July/August at the bottom of this blog post. Finally, don't hesitate to reach out to us through email or our Facebook page.

Remember - every voice matters!
