HARWOOD RESERVE
ADDRESS DETAILS:
Harwood Reserve is a secret Sandringham treasure as it has no street frontage. It’s just south of Sandringham Village – off Harwood St. |
ACCESS:
There is well sign-posted entrance to the park from Kiwitea St (between number 21 and 23) as well as an entrance at the end of Harwood St (between numbers 17and 19) and Parry St (hidden between numbers 20 and 22). These paths are mostly flat however the entrance from the Parry St is quite narrow with high fences on both sides. |
DESCRIPTION:
Harwood Reserve is quite small – but with several distinct areas, allowing for a variety of uses. The entrance from Harwood St in particular is charming, with side garden beds, and the park itself has mature trees and grassed areas. The secluded, hidden nature of Harwood Reserve surrounded by suburban houses is one of its charms. However it is important to note that although there is quite good surveillance from the neighbouring houses, the park is landlocked and not visible to any of the surrounding streets, and therefore is not recommended for children on their own, as loiterers are not infrequent visitors. |
TOPOGRAPHY:
Mostly flat, but one area has a bank suitable for sitting. |
FEATURES:
Playground, benches. |
RECOMMENDED FOR:
Young children up to about 8 years old will enjoy the playground, it is a lovely secluded spot for picnics (quite a large group with a gazebo would fit), or reading a book - and it’s frequently used for tai chi. |
