The Sandringham Festival has been a key event for the Sandringham community for 20 years. Occurring in spring every year, this year the festival took place on Saturday 28th October.
Sandringham Festival is a fun, family event created by the Sandringham Business Association to highlight the shops in the area and bring the community together. Naturally, being Sandringham, there is plenty of delicious food on offer, as well as entertainment and a variety of stalls. The event has a real community feel with lots of free fun activities on offer and performances from local school groups as well as local musicians. SPiCE created a welcoming community section on Calgary Street which was designed to be a space local families could play and relax in.
Enjoying free activities such as face painting, art and craft activities and giant street games as well as live music, young and old alike made the most of the space.
We were also lucky to have a range of local community groups in attendance. Tumeke Cycles and Climate Action Network offered free e-bike trials, Gribblehirst Knitters offered a learn to knit space, Urban Ark and Womenz Shed joined forces to offer a rat trap making workshop, there really was something for everyone!
We also had craft activities from Gribblehirst Weavers and Makers who showed us how to make seed bombs and a Cyanotype workshop with student volunteers from Mount Albert Grammar School.
