SANDRINGHAM COMMUNITY CENTRE
The Sandringham Community Centre is an Auckland Council-run facility, providing community spaces for connection just around the corner from Sandringham Village at 18-20 Kitchener Road. A variety of activities is on offer at the Community Centre, and it is a gathering place for locals including several playgroups.The different rooms within the Sandringham Community Centre are also available to be hired through the council website. |
GRIBBLEHIRST HUB
The Gribblehirst Community Hub is a thriving community meeting space, focusing on making and creativity. Based on the top floor of the former Edendale Bowling Club building at 5 Cabbage Tree Swamp Drive, Gribblehirst Park in Sandringham, the Hub is a membership organisation and open to individuals and organisations to join. It is a neighbourhood hub for collaboration: creating, crafting, cooking, skill-sharing, repairing, recycling, upcycling, and making great ideas happen. |
AUCKLAND COMMUNITY SHED
The Auckland Central Community Shed (ACCS) is a not-for-profit community workshop where for a minimal annual fee members can have access to a fully equipped work space. The Shed provides a place for people to be able to work on personal and community projects and hobbies with support and machinery provided - as well as a place to drop in, chat and exchange ideas. ACCS is affiliated to Men’s Shed NZ and open to new members over 18 years of age. The 400 m2 of workshop space is based on the ground floor of the former Edendale Bowling Club building at 5 Cabbage Tree Swamp Drive, Gribblehirst Park in Sandringham. |

SPORTS CLUBS & FACILITIES
Central United Football Club
Central United FC is a football club of over 800 members located in the central Auckland suburb of Sandringham. Catering for all ages from 4 years old the club strives to achieve excellence at all levels. It is one of the most successful clubs in New Zealand having won a number of Chatham Cups, National League and Northern Regional titles. Central Uniteds home field at Kiwitea St is also the base for Auckland City FC which plays in the National ISPS Handa Premiership.
Eden Rugby Club
Eden Rugby club is situated in Gribblehirst Park off Sandringham Road, just a stone's throw from New Zealand’s most famous Rugby Venue, Eden Park. Catering to all age groups from juniors to seniors, and established almost 100 years ago, Eden Rugby has been a key part of Auckland’s rugby community for many years.
Edendale Tennis Club
The Edendale Tennis Club is a small two astro-grass court tennis club, privately owned, and catering for social and competitive tennis for people of all ages. Floodlights available until 9.00pm. Edendale Tennis Club is Sandringham’s friendly local club. New Members very welcome.
Central Bowls
Central Bowls showcases lawn bowls at its very best in the centre of Auckland. Located on Kiwitea St in Sandringham, Central Bowls welcomes new full, non-playing and social members. As well as well-equipped outdoor bowling greens, Central Bowls also has activities such as darts, pool and table tennis and is available as a venue for the public to hire for events.
Ramblers Softball Club
Offering T-ball for ages 4 – 9, and junior and senior softball for ages 10 and up, Ramblers Softball Club is located just across the road from St Lukes Mall at Warren Freer Park.
Aikido Auckland Seishinkan
Aikido Auckland Seishinkan is dedicated to sharing the techniques, principles and spirit of the Way of United Energy to children, teens and adults as a path to personal growth and stronger relationships . Through traditional aikido, practiced in an authentic environment, they aim to provide our members with challenges and rewarding experiences within a safe and supportive community.
Vikings Petanque Club
Pétanque is a French (Provençal to be precise) outdoor game played by two opposing teams trying to throw boules (metallic spheres the size of an orange) as close as possible to a but (little wooden sphere the size of a plastic bottle cork, also called a cochonnet, meaning piglet). The Vikings Petanque Club calls Gribblehirst Park home, and plays on Saturdays during winter we play on Saturdays from 1pm-4pm, depending on the weather, and on Thursdays in summer, from 5pm or 5.30pm till 7pm. Located at St Luke’s Mall, behind the library, the Citizens Advice Bureau provides free, independent information and advice to anyone. The CAB helps people know what their rights are and how to access services they need. You can access information through the excellent national website, or get in touch with the Eden/Albert branch in person (during Level 2 or below), or via phone (09 846 4023), or email and direct chat via the website.
Eden/Albert Citizens Advice bureau is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. Thursday evening (4-6pm) and Saturday morning (10-12pm, and has Justice of the Peace services available: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 10am to 2.45pm; Thursday 10am to 5.30pm; and Saturday 10am to 11.30am. There are also a variety of clinics available that you can book an appointment for such as legal, immigration and counselling.

If you have an issue with any services provided by Auckland Council, or safety or other concerns about public places such as streets or parks, you can contact Auckland Council to report a problem. One option is to call the Auckland Council on 09 301 0101. Also, there is now an excellent online problem reporting service. Via this link you can complete a simple form and upload photos of a problem to do with maintenance, transport, water, rubbish collections, community facilities and venues, beaches and maunga and wandering dogs. You can also make a formal complaint to Auckland Council online, or provide feedback to Auckland Transport.
Albert-Eden Local Board
Local boards provide governance at the local level within Auckland Council. They enable democratic decision making by, and on behalf of communities within the local board area. Local boards are charged with decision-making on local issues, activities and services, and provide input into regional strategies, policies, plans and decisions – including having some funding to allocate locally. The Local Board for Sandringham is the Albert-Eden Local Board and their office is at 135 Dominion Road, Mt Eden and the email contacts for the 8 members are available online. Everyone is entitled to speak at a Local Board Meeting (3 minutes for individuals, 10 minutes for organisations) – you can find out how to do this online.

Next to Edendale Reserve, at 427 Sandringham Road, is the Sandringham Plunket building. Here mothers and their bubs can join a coffee group (Fortnightly on Thursdays 10.30am – 12pm), sign up and attend a range of free parenting courses, or join the Sandringham Kingsland Plunket Playgroup Tuesdays & Wednesdays 9.30am to 11.45am (during school terms). The closest Plunket Family Clinic – the St Luke’s family clinic - is just up past Balmoral Road at 309 Sandringham Road. Appointments can be made at the clinic from Monday – Friday 8.30am to 3.30pm & Saturday 9am – 1pm.
