- Teams must register before they start collecting pods and small vines with roots for the purposes of this competition.
- By entering this competition teams accept these Terms and Conditions.
9. Pods and vines may be gathered from more than one location across multiple days.
10. Each small vine removed with the roots still attached, and each moth plant pod counts as one point.
11. Pods must be removed from the vine to be eligible.
12. Permission from the landowner must be sought and granted before entering their property.
13. Teams must follow the Health and Safety Guidelines and any written instructions sent by the Competition Organisers to team leaders.
14. For safety reasons, pods can only be removed if there is another person present. Only attempt to remove pods that can easily be reached from
standing at ground level.
15. Gloves, a long-sleeved shirt and eye protection must be worn while removing and/or handling any pods as the sap can be an irritant. Care must be taken to ensure the sap does not come in contact with skin or eyes. Protect your clothes or wear old clothes as sap can ruin them.
16. The pods must not be eaten as they are poisonous. Please collect the pods in bags so they can be disposed of in landfill bins, or at local weed bins.
17. Teams must let S.T.A.M.P (Society Totally Against Moth Plants) know about all moth plant vine locations that are found or visited by emailing: S.T.A.M.P at [email protected]. Please include a description of the current state of the vine and what action you took
(for example, all pods removed, or vine pulled out, or root stem poisoned etc.)
18. Once you have taken your photo with the pods and vines, they can be disposed of in a plastic bag with your household’s weekly landfill rubbish
collection or at a local green bin. Moth pods should not be placed in compost as seeds will spread.
Prizes
19. The following prizes will be awarded in each competition category:
19.1 1st prize for the most pods and small vines with roots - $500
19.2 2nd prize for the most pods and small vines with roots - $300
19.3 Thickest vine prize - $100
20. Entries must be submitted between 5 April and 5 May, 2024.
21. All entries for prizes must be submitted by sending and email to [email protected] with the subject line “Moth Plant Competition Entry 2024”. The body of the email must contain:
21.1. the team name;
21.2. the competition category;
21.3. the number of pods and the number of small vines with roots in each photo; and
21.4. the date of the photo.
22. For entries for the prize for the most pods and small vines with roots, the number of pods, small vines and the identity of the student(s) must be easily verifiable from any photos submitted. Pods and small vines with roots must be arranged in rows, so they can be counted individually, in groups of 50 or 100.
23. Teams may send in multiple photos (no more than 1 photo of pods and 1 photo of vines per week) to prevent pods and small vines rotting.
24. For entries for the prize of the thickest vine, teams must submit 2 photos – 1 before and 1 after the vine was cut at the root - with a ruler beside the vine showing the vine width.
25. By submitting a photo, the team is certifying that the pods and small vines with roots in the photo were gathered by them between when they registered as a team and 5 May, and that they have only used those pods and small vines with roots in one photo for this competition.
26. Weekly spot prizes will be awarded throughout the competition at the discretion of the Competition Organisers.
27. Every team who submits a photo or video on instagram of their moth plant competition efforts, that tags @sandringhamspice and @mags.environment and includes the hashtags #sandringhamspice and #mothplantcomp2024 together with a comment that identifies their team name and competition category, will be automatically entered in the spot prize draw.
28. The Competition Organisers’ decision on awarding the prizes is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
29. The Competition Organisers and supporters shall not be liable for any loss or damage suffered (including but not limited to indirect or consequential loss), or for personal injury suffered or sustained, as a result of participating in this promotion except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law.
